Available in three versatile model variations (Work Mate, SR, & SR5).
^ Available from August 2007 production vehicles.
As an Action Utility Vehicle, HiLux crosses all the boundaries. It's as rugged as ever, and now – just as importantly – it's got many of the creature comforts of a car. Power windows (SR & SR5), engine-sensing rack & pinion power steering, power door locks with keyless entry (SR & SR5), moulded door trims (all models), cruise control (SR5 auto), air conditioning (standard on SR5 and optional on SR), MP3 compatible sound system with CD (SR & SR5), leather steering wheel (SR5), gated gear shift (A/T), luxurious seating, more cabin space... The list goes on and on! But the important message is that in the Toyota HiLux, driving hard doesn't have to mean roughing it.
Because it's bigger all round, the new HiLux gives you heaps of cabin space. You can seat up to 6 adults comfortably in the Double Cab models, up to 4 adults in the Xtra Cab models, and up to 3 adults in the Single Cab. And with its slim profile and ergonomic seating, you get a lot more leg room and space between occupants. What's more, there's multiple storage locations in the dash, in the front door pockets, in the rear door pockets (Double Cab) and back quarter panels (Xtra Cab), under the rear seats (Xtra & Double Cabs), and of course in the centre console.
Don't settle for radio when you can have CD! With the Toyota HiLux, a CD sound system is standard across the entire range, with MP3 compatible audio on SR and SR5. Choose your own tunes and enjoy them through high quality speakers placed strategically around the cabin. You love your driving - don't spoil it with drivetime radio!
It wouldn't be right for Australia's ground-breaking Action Utility Vehicle (AUV) to have anything but the most modern interior. HiLux boasts a stylish and contemporary dash and instrument panel, with uniquely rounded speedo, tacho (SR & SR5), water temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and digital clock, while the SR5 features a sporty Optitron Combimeter display. All doors have single piece moulded trims and all seats are slim profile and built for support, with fabric bucket driver's seat on the SR and SR5.
It's the next size up. It's bigger, it's wider, and it's longer than ever before. In fact, it makes the competition look like kids' toys. Because it looks every bit as tough and powerful as it is, it's got an undeniable presence on the road and gives you a commanding outlook from the driver's seat.
It ain't all bulk. Sure it's big and muscular, but it's also streamlined. Fast lines, bold wheel arch flares, gaping grille, aggressive bonnet scoop (Turbo Diesel models), dominating moulded front bumpers, large catlike transparent headlights, huge deck... One look, and you'll know it means business.
The Toyota HiLux has the body shape you've always wanted. In fact, you've got three to choose from! The Single Cab seats up to 3 adults and has the biggest deck of 2315mm long by 1520mm wide by 450mm deep. The Xtra Cab seats up to 4 adults and its deck is 1805mm long by 1515mm wide by 450mm deep. Finally, the Double Cab seats up to 6 adults, has rear doors, and a deck of 1520mm long by 1515mm wide by 450 deep. All three shapes have the same impressive, dominating styling, they're available in both 4x2 or 4x4, and you have a selection of three engine types (2.7 litre VVT-i 4 cylinder, 3.0 litre EDI turbo diesel, and 4.0 litre VVT-i V6).
It's been redesigned from the ground up, but the HiLux still offers the same quality, reliability and dependability as it always has. After all, that's what you've come to expect of Toyota, and it's certainly what you need if you're going to drive it the way it's intended! It contains rust resistant steel sheets throughout its panelling, a highly rigid and very lightweight body structure, a one piece chassis with a thick side rail and strategic reinforcements for maximum torsion rigidity, a rust-resistant underbody protection plates on all 4x4s, side-steps on all 4x4s, a quality latch & pole type tailgate, an advanced VVT-i petrol engine or an electronically controlled common rail injection turbo diesel, a stainless steel exhaust and muffler, inner & outer hydrofluoric polyethylene layers sealing the fuel tank (petrol only), a long-life diesel fuel filter, and heaps of sound and vibration proofing.
It's bigger, it's better, it's stronger - and of course, it's safer than ever before. The Toyota HiLux comes with driver and front passenger SRS airbags standard on every model. The airbags work together with the pre-tensioning seatbelts to help keep both you and your passenger safe in frontal collisions.
GOA means you're protected. HiLux's design and construction satisfies Toyota's stringent passive safety guidelines. This means it has an impact absorbing cabin complete with side door anti-intrusion beams and a Head Impact Protection Structure (HIPS), so it absorbs impact rather than transferring it to you and your passengers. It also has a cross member at the front end of the frame, helping prevent smaller vehicle intrusion.
On road or off, anti-skid braking (ABS) can be a life-saver. Wheel lock-up is a major cause of accidents because steering control is lost once the front wheels begin to skid. ABS prevents your wheels from locking up, so you're less likely to skid under heavy braking. So no matter what the surface, you can drive with confidence knowing you've got an ace up your sleeve.
Working in conjunction with the dual SRS airbags, HiLux's 3-point pre-tensioning driver and passenger seatbelts automatically retract in frontal collisions for much better restraint. Xtra Cab and Dual Cab models also have two 3-point Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) belts in the back.
The Toyota HiLux has increased power across the range. In fact, it's streets ahead! The introduction of VVT-i to the 2.7 litre means the 4 cylinder 4x2 Work Mate delivers 126kW of power (343Nm torque)^. Meanwhile, the 3.0 litre Electronic Direct Injection (EDI) turbo diesel delivers 120kW of power (343Nm torque)^. And the very potent 4.0 litre petrol VVT-i V6 4x4 delivers 175kW (376Nm torque auto / 343Nm torque manual), making the HiLux 41%* more powerful than ever before! It's even available on the 4x2...
^ Power and torque test standards differ. Ensure comparisons use the same test standard.
* Figure based on comparison of V6 against previous most powerful model (3.4L petrol).
Along with all the extra grunt comes plenty of extra pulling power. With trailer brakes, HiLux can tow up to a hefty 2250kg – a 22% improvement on the previous model. So whether you're touring with the family, boating with the boys, or simply hauling a big payload, you'll have the brawn to do the job with ease.
HiLux 4x4 Double Cab SR5 (pictured) is fitted with Forge Alloy Bull Bar, Hard Tonneau Cover, Ute Liner, Towbar, Towball & Trailer Wiring Hardness, Headlamp Covers, Bonnet Protector, Weathersheilds, Seat Covers and All Weather Rubber Floor Mats available as optional accessories.
As you'd expect, the Toyota HiLux is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 models (with 3 engine types, 3 body styles (Single, Xtra Cab, Dual Cab), and 3 models (Work Mate, SR, SR5). And there's no prize for guessing that the 4x4 is a real 4x4! Up to 217mm of ground clearance is just the start. It also features rust resistant steel sheets throughout its panelling, a highly rigid and very lightweight body structure, and a one piece chassis with a thick side rail and strategic reinforcements for maximum torsion rigidity, off-road stability, and ride comfort.
The Toyota HiLux is still about as rugged as they come, but you'd never know from the inside. In fact, it's so spacious, so comfortable, and so smooth, if it wasn't for your bird's eye view of the road, you'd almost think you were driving a car!
