Kluger

Ample family space & storage

It's longer, it's wider, it's higher. And it's good news for families. Kluger's designers have capitalised on substantially increased overall dimensions, creating an open, airy space that's easier to access, sophisticated and eminently usable. Compared to the previous model, it's 105mm longer on the inside, which translates into noticeably more space between passengers and between rows, especially when you factor in the extended slide range on the 2nd row (7 seat models only). What's more, 2nd and 3rd row passengers sit higher, and the driver is more comfortable, thanks to a telescopic steering column, installed at a more ergonomic angle. And, of course, a longer cargo area, coupled with fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats and a variety of clever storage spaces, means significantly more room for luggage (or pram, stroller, baby bag, shopping, toys and beach bag!).

Easy-to-use seating versatility

Whether you're running a family or roughing it in the bush, you want to be able to tailor your seating to the occasion. And you want to do it quickly and easily. With the all-new Toyota Kluger, you can customise your seating quickly and easily by converting the 2nd row from three-person bench seat to two luxurious Captain Chairs with armrests, or sliding the 2nd row centre console under the front console, for a walk-thru. Or with one touch on KX-S and Grande models, you can fold the 2nd row flat down to deck level, for optimum storage space (the boot contains a separate lever for each row). Simply put, Kluger gives you smart seating. It's fast, it's easy and it's exactly what you want.

Entertainment at your fingertips

Like music? If so, you'll love the sound of the New Kluger's 6-speaker MP3 compatible CD audio system. KX-R grades enjoy a single disc, KX-S a 6 disc in-dash CD changer and Grande an AVN system incorporating Satellite Navigation^ and a 4 disc in-dash CD changer. MP3 fans will further benefit from the audio input jack on the KX-R and KX-S models - perfect for your iPod® or other MP3 players, and built-in Bluetooth™* capability on the KX-S and Grande also allows hands-free conversation through a compatible mobile phone. Kluger Grande also features a fully integrated ceiling mounted DVD Rear Seat Entertainment system. Boasting a 9" LCD screen that flips down at the push of a button (and folds neatly up again when not in use), three wireless headsets and two connections for wired headphones, the system is cleverly positioned for uninterrupted viewing pleasure for all 2nd and 3rd row passengers, and can be operated via remote control or with the buttons on the unit itself.

* Bluetooth™ will only operate with mobile telephones enabled with compatible Bluetooth™ wireless technology. Grande Bluetooth is compatible with HFP [Hands Free Profile] version 1.0 and OPP [Object Push Profile] version 1.1 international standards. KX-S Bluetooth is compatible with HFP [Hands Free Profile] version 1.0 only.

Technological comfort & convenience

In the all-new Toyota Kluger, technology most definitely is your friend. It starts before you even turn the key. In fact, you don't actually have to turn the key! Thanks to Smart Start (on Grande), with the key in your pocket (or handbag), you can just put your foot on the brake and push the Start button and... ignition! Of course, there's also the Rear View Camera and steering wheel controls for audio. And yet another exciting Kluger innovation is the Multi-function Information Display (MID), which, in addition to displaying the view from the Rear View Camera, shows trip computer information and - on KX-S and Grande models – air-conditioning display. The KX-S and Grande also have 3 Zone climate controlled air-conditioning and front heated seats. What's more, the Grande has the convenience of a DVD based Satellite Navigation system^ through an easy to use, 8"AVN touch screen system. By embracing technology, the new model Kluger makes every trip a comfortable and convenient one.

^ Current Satellite Navigation Audio Systems cover major capital and primary national road networks, as well as offering some coverage of regional areas.

Kluger makes its presence known

Kluger

Purposeful yet sophisticated, muscular yet decidedly refined, the all-new Kluger makes its presence known, without making a fuss. Characterised by clean lines, solid contemporary contours and a wide, sure-footed stance, it's a self-contained SUV that's equally at home in all settings and all conditions. With proud fender flares, powerful lower body, innovative combination headlamps and aerodynamic panels, it successfully balances a car-like elegance with the three-dimensional strength and sturdiness of a conventional 4WD.

Remote release power tailgate (Grande)

At the press of a button on the Grande you can automatically release and close the rear powered tailgate, making loading and unloading significantly easier and more convenient.

Rear glass convenience hatch

Kluger

Whether it's a closing-time supermarket dash or that last-minute, near-forgotten holiday luggage, sometimes you just want quick access to the cargo area without opening the entire tailgate. That's why the all-new Toyota Kluger lets you open the rear glass convenience hatch independently of the tailgate. Just pop the hatch with the push of a button, load up, and you’re on your way.

safety

Active Safety - Vehicle Control Management System

Standard on all models, Kluger's Vehicle Control Management System (VCMS) is like its central nervous system. It uses a Control Area Network (CAN) to link engine output, brake power & distribution, and steering torque, ensuring they all work together effectively in an emergency for much enhanced control, especially when cornering on wet, gravel, or otherwise slippery roads. Its individual components include:

Seven airbags & active whiplash reduction – all standard!

Unlike some new cars, the all-new Kluger considers the safety of every occupant equally important. That's why every Kluger model boasts a grand total of seven SRS airbags as standard across the entire range. Included are driver and front passenger airbags, driver's knee airbag, seat-mounted side airbags for driver and front passenger, and two roll-sensing curtain shield airbags covering all three rows of seats. Kluger even comes with Toyota's advanced Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL), standard on all models. In the event of a rear-end collision, the front seat active head restraints move slightly up and forward, so your head and neck are more effectively cushioned.

Rear View Camera gives you increased visibility

Whether you're shopping, holidaying or ferrying the kids to school, child pedestrian safety is paramount. That's why Toyota Kluger includes a Rear View camera standard in every model, complete with crystal-clear 3.5" colour display (8" on Grande). So when you drive the all-new Kluger, you'll have the 'eyes in the back of your head' that, in reality, all new cars should give you. Of course, a Rear View Camera is also handy in a host of other driving situations, from reverse parking to squeezing into the garage to hooking up the caravan*.

* The Rear View Camera does not provide a comprehensive view of the entire rear area of vehicle and should only be used as an aid for viewing when reversing.

Passive safety – far from complacent

In addition to seven airbags, every Toyota Kluger model comes standard with a raft of passive safety enhancements, to help keep you and your family safe. Its front and centre pillars have been reinforced, as have the roof, the floor, the rear suspension, the under-body and virtually every joint in the frame. All doors have been reinforced and fitted with energy-absorbing pads to reduce impact to the chest and abdominal areas in the event of a side collision. An energy-absorbing structure has also been used on the inside of the interior pillar and roof to reduce the risk of head injuries. Additionally, the front and 3rd row seats are fitted with 3-point ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) seatbelts with pretensioner and forcelimiter on the front row, and the 2nd row seats have 3-point ELR/ALR (Automatic Locking Retractor) seatbelts, which are essential for child safety seats. Of course, pedestrians haven’t been forgotten; the new model Kluger includes a number of energy-absorbing components to help reduce pedestrian injury, including ribs on the inner hood, brackets on the fender attachment and braces on the cowl.

mechanical

Over 200kW of power

With an advanced all-alloy, quad-cam 3.5-litre dual VVT-i V6 engine the all new Toyota Kluger delivers an impressive 201kW of power. That’s 17% more than its predecessor and more than any mid-sized naturally aspirated six cylinder SUV in Australia! And every kilowatt is self-contained; it’s about smooth, quiet, fuel-efficient and usable power, not unrefined noise and vibration. Thanks to Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) Kluger optimises valve timing across the range of engine operating conditions. Translation? Noticeable performance increases in the low-to-medium and high engine speed ranges.

Enviro-friendly fuel economy

Importantly, the new model Toyota Kluger is also fuel efficient, consuming just 11.0L per 100km (11.6L/100Km on Grande AWD)*. In fact, the same technology that delivers its class-leading naturally aspirated power also delivers its impressive fuel economy: Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). By dynamically varying the intake and exhaust valve timing, Kluger's light-weight, low friction Dual VVT-i engine considerably increases power and fuel efficiency yet reduces harmful exhaust emissions.

The all-terrain AWD or 2WD wagon alternative

Choose the drive-train that best suits your lifestyle. Sit high and dry about town in the Two-Wheel Drive Kluger – the ultimate alternative to the conventional family wagon. Or escape off-road in an eminently qualified All-Wheel Drive model, complete with Downhill Assist Control (DAC). DAC dynamically adjusts hydraulic brake pressure on steep descents, helping you maintain a constant low speed without locking the wheels, so you’re free to concentrate on steering (and sight-seeing).

* ADR81/01 combined cycle. Actual fuel consumption may vary depending on driving style and conditions and options/accessories fitted.
