The three-door Toyota Yaris YR was recently judged Australia's Best Small Car under $20K at the inaugural Drive Car of the Year Awards for its class-leading price, above-average quality and competitive space, flexibility, and safety.

Spacious, adaptable, stylish interior

Everything you want on the outside, and everything you need on the inside. The Yaris interior is incredibly spacious thanks to its long wheel base, wide track, and cleverly designed seating arrangement. It has more than enough leg room for driver and passenger, and rear head room to accommodate even tall passengers! And thanks to advanced engineering, there's no 'transmission tunnel' on the rear floor, providing flat floor space and abundant leg and foot room. The Yaris interior is also boldly stylish, with a centre-mounted instrument panel (digital on hatchback models, analogue on sedan). What's more, it features a flat cargo deck, and up to 25 ingenious storage compartments (depending on the model) such as a Driver's seat glovebox.

Convenient, clever & adaptable seating

Complete with easy front seat adjustment and 60:40 split-fold and slide adjustable (Hatchback only) rear seats, the seating in the Toyota Yaris combines luxurious comfort and practical adaptability. The 60:40 split rear seats slide forward and back (Hatchback only), allowing you to choose more legroom or more luggage room, plus it folds flat for even more luggage space, all with a simple tilt and slide action. It features advanced seat and back design and rear passenger centre armrest (sedan only) to provide superior ride comfort and support whether you're on the long road or just zipping around the city.

MP3 compatible CD sound system

A stylish vehicle is nothing without the sound system to match! That’s why the Yaris comes standard with an MP3 compatible CD sound system, complete with 4 high quality speakers, audio input* compatible with iPod® and MP3 players and electronic tune AM/FM radio. The European styled hatchback YRS and YRX models also feature steering wheel audio controls, and YRX models boast a 6 disc in-dash CD changer and Bluetooth™ compatibility^.

Yaris gives you comfort, convenience, and security at your fingertips with power windows, power exterior mirrors, and power door locks (including remote keyless entry and engine immobiliser). Hatchback models also boast a modern digital instrument display panel complete with digital speedometer, tachometer, clock, trip meter and fuel gauge.

The Yaris marries style with race-bred sports aerodynamics. Its low front, simple monoform shape with integrated bumpers, and flowing shoulder lines reduce wind resistance, and intimidating lower bumper and large door mirrors complement its long, wide, stable stance.

Front fog lights (YRX)

Foggy conditions are one of the most hazardous conditions for driving. Fortunately, the YRX Yaris comes standard with fog lights integrated in the front bumper. Unlike conventional headlights, whose light is simply reflected back at you, further obscuring your vision, fog lights more effectively penetrate the fog, giving you the vision you need to help make it home safely.

Low vibration and low noise body

Thanks to the effective application of vibration damping and noise suppressant materials within the body, the Yaris offers an exceptionally quiet and smooth ride, with significantly reduced engine and road noise and vibration.

Recyclable

Yaris is the clever car with a conscience. All major plastic parts are made from Toyota Super Olefin Polymer (TSOP), which is easy to recycle. What's more, recycled materials are used for the dash and floor sound insulation and for the spare wheel well area. And if that's not enough, the structure itself is easy to dismantle because it is based on Toyota's Recycling Vision, which requires that all component parts are easy to remove for future recycling. It all adds up to a car that cares as much about the environment as you do!

Class-leading airbag safety – up to 7 airbags

Yaris takes safety very seriously. In fact, it's the first Australian vehicle in its class to offer an optional driver's knee airbag (available on Hatchback only). The driver's knee airbag is a revolutionary inclusion in the Enhanced Safety Pack option. The Enhanced Safety Pack also includes front seat side SRS airbags and full curtain shield airbags. Of course, all Yaris models offer the protection of driver and front passenger SRS airbags as standard, and when the Enhanced Safety Pack option is taken up it gives you an unsurpassed total of up to 7 airbags (depending on the model).

Pedestrian protection

Yaris is designed to stringent pedestrian safety standards. Its advanced body design comprises cleverly engineered features to help reduce the chance of injury to pedestrians in the event of an accident. Features include an impact absorbing hood structure, fender, and cowl – all areas that are likely pedestrian impact zones in an accident.

Safe-T-Cell

Although an accident is something we all hope to avoid, it's nice to know that your vehicle is designed to help provide protection. Yaris comes standard with Toyota Safe-T-Cell which helps absorb much of the force of a collision rather than transferring it to driver and passengers. Toyota has always taken crash-testing seriously. And with the aid of our advanced crash-test simulation software, we're able to simulate more crashes from more angles, ensuring a higher level of safety when the vehicle is hit in an accident.

Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) incorporating ABS, EBD and BA

In an emergency, it's hard to keep a cool head. When it comes to emergency braking, Yaris helps keep you safe by doing the thinking for you. All models come standard with Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) combining 3 clever braking technologies to maximise braking performance.

Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) – ABS helps prevent your wheels from locking up, so you’re less likely to skid.
Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) – Dynamically redistributes braking force based on vehicle load.
Brake Assist (BA) – Helps you apply optimum braking force during an emergency stop. It interprets a quick, hard push of the brake pedal as emergency braking and supplements the braking power applied if the driver has not pushed hard enough.

1.3L or 1.5L VVT-i power

If power and responsiveness are high on your checklist, the Yaris will quickly earn a tick. It offers two engine sizes: the nimble 1.3-litre (hatchback only) and the exciting 1.5-litre. Both engines are equipped with Variable Valve Timing intelligence (VVT-i) for the optimum balance of performance and economy. The 1.3L delivers an impressive 63kW of power and the 1.5L an enviable 80kW.

Clever hill-sensing semi-adaptive shift control

All auto Yaris models are equipped with hill-sensing semi-adaptive transmission shift control. Semi-adaptive shift control engages revolutionary software to 'read' and automatically adapt to hills. It holds a lower gear for improved acceleration up hills and less braking down hills. It also adapts to your gear change regime to better suit your driving style.

Rigid structure, large footprint, advanced suspension, great handling

Exceptional handling quality isn't just about having stiff springs. It's about finding the delicate balance between body rigidity, wheelbase, weight, and track width, and then designing and calibrating the suspension to suit. Yaris finds that balance. Its structure is light yet highly rigid, and it boasts a large footprint on the road. Rough and windy road surfaces aren't absorbed by the body itself, they're absorbed by the cleverly designed suspension as they should be. Electric power steering

The Yaris offers clever electric power assisted steering, a feature already proven on Prius. Widely accepted as the future of power steering, electric assisted power steering eliminates the need for hydraulic oil in the steering system and delivers a more intuitive driving experience and lower fuel consumption. It gives you precisely the right amount of assistance based on driving style and conditions: light response at low speeds and moderate response at higher speeds.
